Dear Colleagues,

I’m reaching out to share some exciting GreenScreen news with you. We’re pleased to let you know that GreenScreen® for Safer Chemicals Hazard Assessment Guidance v1.5a (April 2026) is now available.

This update marks an exciting step forward for GreenScreen. Version 1.5a introduces two new climate impact endpoints—ozone depleting potential (ODP) and global warming potential (GWP)—bringing added climate transparency to GreenScreen assessments while preserving the hazard-based foundation users know and trust.

Just as importantly, the core methodology remains unchanged from v1.4. GreenScreen Benchmark criteria, scoring logic, and GreenScreen List Translator methodology all stay the same. In other words, v1.5a expands visibility into climate-related information without changing the core hazard assessment framework.

Version 1.5a also adds guidance for documenting whether ODP and GWP information was identified and, where applicable, citing the regulatory lists and information sources used to characterize climate impact.

To support a smooth transition:

  • Through December 31, 2026, Licensed GreenScreen Profilers may use either v1.4 or v1.5a for new, renewed, or revised assessments, unless otherwise specified in a particular program.

  • Beginning January 1, 2027, all new, renewed, or revised assessments must use v1.5a.

  • Existing v1.4 assessments remain valid for their specified duration.

GreenScreen has always helped organizations make more informed decisions by clearly communicating hazards, identifying data gaps, and supporting safer chemical selection across the supply chain. With v1.5a, we are building on that strong foundation by adding climate impact transparency in a way that is practical, clear, and fully aligned with GreenScreen’s mission.

We’re grateful to the many contributors, advisors, and members of the GreenScreen community whose expertise helped shape this update.

Kind regards,

Chris Helt
