Cars Generate Pollution, Noise and Waste
Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) are tools used by progressive manufacturers to summarize and communicate life cycle information to consumers. It is one attempt to make LCA information widely available. EPDs contain information on the inputs and outputs for each life cycle stage of the materials or components used in the final product. As with LCAs, however, it is important that consumers have access to the methodology used by the producers to make these product claims as EPDs vary in their comprehensiveness.
Both Volvo, a major auto manufacturer, and Electrolux,the world's largest producer of powered appliances for kitchen, cleaning and outdoor have created comprehensive EPDs for many of their product lines. Please see their websites and the case study below for more information.
