Sweden: TCO Labeling

TCO Development specializes in the labeling of computers, monitors, and keyboards. TCO is unique in that it incorporates both the product’s external and internal impacts, i.e., how it affects people and the environment. In doing so, TCO hopes to advance the development of products that are good for people and good for the environment.

The TCO labeling of computer equipment includes the following requirements regarding the external environment:

  • Low energy consumption;
  • Minimization of chlorinated and brominated flame-retarding substances and of heavy metals such as mercury and cadmium;
  • Design for disassembly and recycling; and
  • Adherence to ISO 14001 or EMAS standards.

For more information on TCO’s criteria visit TCO’s website.
