Examples of Environmental Labeling Programs
Nordic Swan
The Swan is the official Nordic ecolabel, introduced by the Nordic Council of Ministers. The green symbol is available for an estimated 60 product groups ranging from household cleaning products to hotel services to electronic products.
Although specific criteria varies within each product category, criteria common to all product groups are:
- Attention to the product's impact on the environment from the raw material to waste—i.e., throughout the product’s lifecycle.
- Standards with regard to quality and performance in comparison to other products in its class.
Criteria is strengthened over the years to ensure that a product carrying the Nordic Swan label is always at the cutting edge of environmentalism and innovation.
