Questions We Must Ask of New Technologies
- Is the development of technology guided by the precautionary principle?
- Are developments ‘failure friendly,’ that is, if the worst was to occur, what would happen?
- Who owns the technology and who controls it?
- Who is the technology designed for and for whose benefit?
- Are there alternatives, e.g., is it the best way to achieve a particular goal, e.g., food security, poverty alleviation, better healthcare, safer materials?
